Some semblance of silence, filled with the sounds of crickets, the distant barking of dogs and the actions of neighbours during a visit to my mother in Uman.
Подоба тиші, наповнена звуками цвіркунів, віддаленим гавкотом собак і активністю сусідів під час візиту до мами в місті Умань.
I decided to make this recording from my mother’s home. Although I have not lived there for 20 years, I visit quite often and it’s a very comfortable sound environment for me. In the recording, there is the sound of crickets. I made the recording in the central part of quite a big town and when I listened back to it, I was surprised that these sounds of nature are so loud. I did not expect them to be. And there are some other sounds – neighbours, dogs – so these sounds of silence are quite diverse.
Я вирішила зробити цей запис з дому моєї мами. Хоча я не живу там вже 20 років, я доволі часто дути навідуюсь, адже це дуже комфортне звукове середовище для мене. На записі лунає стрекотіння цвіркунів. Я робила запис у центральній частині досить великого міста, і, коли я його прослухала, то була здивована, що ці природні звуки настільки гучні. Я не очікувала їх почути і тим паче записати. На записі є й інші звуки – сусідів, собак – тому набір звуків, які наповнюють собою тишу, досить різноманітний.
