I wanted to record the usual routine sounds of my neighbourhood in the middle of the working day. The leaves were rustling nicely, children were playing in the yard. Only at the end did I hear the sound of a rising air raid siren. Strange feelings, because the sound of the siren is now familiar to me and awareness of danger does not come immediately. There is a feeling of acceptance; you close the window and just get back to work.
I made this recording when I just wanted to let some fresh air into my home. I opened the window and I terminated the recording when I heard the air raid siren, because I wanted to check the telegram channels [on her phone] to see what was flying at us – drones, rockets. And what surprised me about this particular recording is that I didn’t notice the siren immediately. I noticed it a few seconds after it actually started, and this surprised me because it means that my nervous system and organs have adapted to the war and to these new sounds. I even ignored the siren for several seconds.
